Short, and written to be understood rather than to protect us.
Ordering
Prices are in US dollars and include any applicable tax. An order is confirmed once payment has been taken. If something sells out between your order and our seeing it, we will contact you and refund in full.
Commissions
- Enquiring commits you to nothing and costs nothing.
- We confirm the design and price in writing before starting.
- Where a deposit applies, it is stated up front and is deducted from the final price.
- We photograph the finished piece and send it to you before it ships.
What we cannot promise
Handmade pieces vary. Colours shift slightly between batches, and the markings on horsehair and ash-glazed work are formed by fire and cannot be predicted, matched to a photograph, or repeated. That unpredictability is the nature of the work, and it is also the point of it.
Occasionally a piece fails in the kiln. If that happens we tell you the same day and remake it at no cost. This is why we ask for more hair than one piece needs.
Returns
Ready-made pieces may be returned within 30 days unworn and in original condition. Commissioned and memorial pieces cannot be returned, because they are made from your own materials and cannot be resold. Damaged items are always repaired, remade or refunded.
Materials you send us
Hair and ashes are logged on arrival, stored labelled and separately, and returned with the finished piece. While we take considerable care, we cannot accept liability for materials lost in the post before they reach us. Please use a tracked service for anything irreplaceable.
Photographs
We may photograph finished pieces for the shop and social media. We will always ask before sharing anything connected to a memorial commission, and we never include your name or your animal's name without permission.

If something has gone wrong, email hello@claycontour.com before anything else. Nearly everything is fixable and we would far rather fix it than argue about it.
